The paw of a cave bear from Bashkiria, a beast of the Late Pleistocene that lived here more than 25 thousand years ago. Ursus spelaeus was markedly larger than modern brown bears and was one of the largest bears of the Late Pleistocene in Eurasia.
The preservation of the bones is high: phalanges, metacarpus, carpus — every element of the paw is in its place. The bones are mounted on a metal armature that is not visible from the front, so the anatomy of the limb itself and the proportions of the animal read clearly.
