A carbonaceous chondrite has changed very little since the early Solar System: chondrules — frozen droplets of melt — lie within a fine dusty matrix in which organic compounds have survived.
Carbonaceous chondrites are among the oldest and chemically most primitive meteorites of the Solar System. They have preserved organic compounds, amino acids among them: the matter from which the chemical “broth” of the early Earth was later composed.
The matter of Kainsaz formed about 4.56 billion years ago — in the first millions of years of the Solar System, before the formation of the Earth was complete. It is an almost unaltered fragment of the matter from which our planetary system assembled.
