The Maslyanino meteorite was found in 1992 in Novosibirsk Oblast, near the village of Maslyanino, and belongs to the iron meteorites with silicate inclusions. Such bodies are rare: angular stony inclusions have been preserved within the metal. IAB irons, the group to which Maslyanino belongs, formed in impact melts inside a partially molten asteroid.
The material of Maslyanino formed about 4.5 billion years ago, at the dawn of the Solar System. On the polished slice, dark nickel-rich metal alternates with angular grey silicate inclusions and areas where etching reveals the crystalline pattern of iron.
This slice shows both constituents of the meteorite at once: dense metal and stone inclusions distributed across the entire plane. A complete plate with a natural edge is a rare format for Maslyanino, whose find has a modest total weight.
